Reader Services

Library services for readers are differentiated by five circulation desks: the 1st-year student circulation desk is on the 1st floor, the 2nd-3rd-year student circulation desk is on the 2nd floor, the 4th-5th-year student circulation desk is on the 3rd floor, and for 6th-7th-year students, postgraduate students, residents, and professors, there is a scientific literature circulation desk spanning three floors.

The Scientific Library places great emphasis on providing information and bibliographic services, including: “Information Days,” “Department Days,” exhibition viewings, compilation of recommended and research-support literature lists, and fulfilling written and oral thematic inquiries.

As new literature arrives, information bulletins are issued, and information in the form of a virtual exhibition of new acquisitions is posted on the website of KazNMU named after S. D. Asfendiyarov.

The Scientific Library actively participates in all university events: reader conferences, discussions, and meetings with interesting people. Book exhibitions, displays, and thematic bibliographic reviews are held at all these venues.

The subject librarian acts as an intermediary between departments/faculties and the library; the assigned librarian advises students on academic process matters and utilizes advertising and social media opportunities (university website, library website, mail.ru, Facebook).

The library utilizes the automated library system “Kabis,” specifically developed for library processes. It automates library operations and provides remote access to the electronic catalog via the Internet.

The library’s electronic catalog is accessible to all KazNMU users on the web page at http://lib.kaznmu.kz.

In the AIBS “Kabis” system, the automated “return-issue” service for documents has been implemented in the “Reader” module at all circulation desks. Educational literature for all faculties is equipped with barcodes.

The “Fund” module of the “Kabis” system features an electronic catalog, which users can utilize to find and read required literature in full text. Access to all “KABIS” library services is provided through individual student accounts.

Additionally, the “UDC – online” service has been launched, enabling readers to submit articles for the assignment of UDC, BBK, or MRNTI indices through their personal accounts, without needing to visit the library.

The collection of the KazNMU library is also universal in that it includes documents hosted on remote technical media.
